Joan Osborne

Joan Elizabeth Osborne (born July 8, 1962) is an American singer-songwriter, known chiefly for her song "One of Us".

Originally from the Louisville suburb of Anchorage, Kentucky, she moved to New York City in the late 1980's, where Osborne formed her own record label, Womanly Hips, to release a few independent recordings before signing to Mercury Records. Her second (and first major label) album is Relish (1995), which became a hit on the strength of the single "One of Us".

Joan Osborne is unlike any artist I know. First of all, her voice sends chills down my spine. She could be singing her grocery list, and I’d still be in awe. She’s that good.
Second, she’s one of those artists who takes her fans on a new journey
with every new album. She doesn’t stick to a particular genre, but covers bluesrock, soul, motown, folk and even some country. It’s all done effortlessly. It’s all gorgeous. But it also challenges the listener to open up to a new Joan Osborne with
every cd she releases. It’s never love at first sight, it always takes a few spins before you start to ‘feel’ the music. But once you do, boy, you’re in for a treat.
