Founded in 2001, Gravity Co. started out as a side project, working on the soundtrack to the computer game Trans, side project turned to full-time and they haven’t looked back since.
In early 2002 Gravity Co. made their debut, releasing their first single ‘Away’ accompanied by an art-school style video directed by Gravity Co.’s Producer Georgi Stanev. The bands first try topped MM TV’s (Bulgaria’s most popular music television) International Airplay Chart, holding on to the #1 spot for three consecutive weeks.
‘Away’ would later be included in NovaXposure - the monthly compilation released by ‘Radio Ventures’ with songs by Elton John, Sarah Connor, Alcazar and others.
Gravity’s second single ‘Mr. No One’ would set the critics straight, as to the bands potential, taking a play-list space in BMG’s official weekly video compilation, alongside Carlos Santana and Christina Aguilera.
The band stretched the boundaries further when Bill Withers granted official permission to record and release a cover version of his all time classic ‘Ain’t No Sunshine.
‘Away’, ‘Mr. No One’ and ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ all made the cut for Gravity Co.’s highly anticipated debut album ‘U’ released December 13th 2002. Gravity, have since been identified by an original electro pop sound, with warm vocal melodies over pumping electro beats.
An instant success, ‘U’ brought home the first music awards - ‘Best Debut’ and ‘Best Pop/Dance Album’, from MM TV’s annual awards (the Bulgarian equivalent of the Brits).
In July of 2004 the pilot single from Gravity’s second album is released.
And then there was ‘Wings’, the first video by a Bulgarian Artist with airplay on MTV! Boasting Giorgio de Chirico inspired 3D animation - courtesy of one of Bulgaria’s finest Alexander Sokerov - ‘Wings’ would be played 13 weeks running on MTV’s World Chart Express.
On March 6th 2005 second album ‘Instinct’ saw the light of day. Shortly after the release of the LP, Gravity Co. were awarded ‘Best Band’ from the annual MM TV awards of 2005. An additional ‘Band of the Year’ award was presented by Melo TV Mania’s annual awards.
2006 would prove one of Gravity’s most eventful years. Starting off with another award for ‘Best Rock/Alternative Song’ for ‘What I Want’ (‘Instinct’ 2005) from the annual MM TV awards 2006. Followed by the release of cult favorite video to ‘Empty World’, with a special video edit version that has become Gravity Co.’s Trademark Song!
In July of 2006 the band split with one of it’s founders, bass player Yassen. Gravity decided not to replace him and rather opted to program the electronic bass lines and have guest appearances for their big concerts.
Having released two celebrated albums, known for their engaging stage antics - performing full capacity venues and supporting the likes of the Stereo MC’s, Fun Lovin’ Criminals and more recently Ladytron - Gravity Co. teamed up with a wide range of popular Bulgarian DJ’s to remix some of the band’s hits. Adding two brand new song’s to the mix, ‘Paper Trail’ and ‘The Evidence Came’ with lyrics contributed by Gravity’s new lyricist Boris Cheshirkov.
On the 6th of October the band launced their third LP ‘Mixedup’ with a unique 3D show in front of 3000 fans at Sofia’s Hristo Botev Hall. Hailed as a memorable sensual experience, the live event premiered next radio single ‘Paper Trail’, to which Italian director Armando Costantino (known for his work with Saint Germain) filmed an ‘urban’ – esque video, which aired in the New Year and is now, consistently a chart favourite.
On the 25 of March 2007, minutes before taking the stage to contribute a mind-blowing ‘Empty World’ against a multi-media frenzy, on the night of the BG Radio Music Awards Ceremony, the boys were called to the stage to collect the ‘Best Band Award’. The Prize was a gift to Gravity Co. from their loyal and evidently united fan base, as online listener voting essentially won the Award, Thank You All! It is important to note that until recently BG Radio did not allow any foreign language songs on its frequency... On the night, Gravity Co. played the first foreign song at any BG Awards Ceremony.
On the 15 May Gravity Co. received seven nominations for the upcoming MMTV Music Awards Ceremony, due to take place on the 26 June, including Best Band, Viewer’s Choice, Best Pop/Dance Song (Empty World, Paper Trail) Best Pop/Dance Album (Mixedup), and Best Music Video (Empty World, Paper Trail)!
